Climate Report for Puglia and Calabria
Climate change, defined as the lasting and irreversible change in the Earth’s climate, is having a significant impact on southern Italy, manifesting itself in more intense and frequent heat waves, prolonged periods of drought and an increased risk of fires. Desertification is a growing problem, with regions such as Puglia and Calabria particularly at risk. In addition, rising sea levels and more intense extreme weather events (such as storm surges and floods) are exacerbating existing problems in coastal areas.
